Paying it forward while becoming even more highly skilled payroll professionals were the goals the two recipients of the APA’s 2022 Payroll Education Grant packages set for themselves when they applied earlier this year.

Idalia Ow, CPP, Senior HRIS Analyst for Monterrey County in California, received the Complete APA Payroll Education Package.

Annette Jones, CPP, Payroll Supervisor at Sargent & Lundy in Chicago, Illinois, received the Wisely® Pay by ADP® Payroll Education Grant.

As the recipient of the APA’s top education grant, Ow received a full registration to this year’s Payroll Congress, registration for any and all of the APA’s payroll seminars for one year, which include courses offered at the Payroll Learning Centers in San Antonio and Las Vegas (travel and hotel expenses are not included), and access for one full year to the complete library of APA publications, including PayTrain®.

Ow said receiving the phone call from APA Education Grant Committee Chair Stephanie McAtee, CPP, left her “pretty speechless,” and that’s something Ow says rarely happens.

Once I was over my initial shock, I was thrilled to learn of my selection for this honor, and I am deeply appreciative of the Education Grant committee members and the American Payroll Association’s support to further my payroll knowledge,” Ow said. “This payroll grant will allow me to give back to my payroll family by reaching back and lifting up my local payroll colleagues by teaching and increasing their payroll knowledge.”

Jones said she was also shocked and honored to learn that she’d been chosen to receive the Wisely Pay by ADP education grant and looks forward to using the resources to become a better payroll professional.

As the recipient of the Wisely Pay by ADP grant, Jones also received full registration to this year’s Payroll Congress, registration to four of APA’s 90-minute webinars of her choosing, and access for one full year to the complete library of APA publications, including PayTrain.

From the first class I attended in San Antonio before I became a CPP and throughout my career, I have valued the education the APA offers. The APA training has been invaluable to my career, always keeping me up to date on payroll issues and changes,” Jones said. “There are so many sessions offered at Congress that are going to be a benefit in my career and will also benefit my company as I share what I learn with my payroll team and my local chapter.”

Other education grant recipients were:

  • Misty Green, CPP, Payroll Administrator at BQ Tax & Accounting LTD—Payroll Source Plus® Grant
  • Michelle Curry, CPP, Payroll Manager at Marsh and McLennan Companies—Payroll Source Plus Grant

“Receiving this education grant will allow me to expand my knowledge and confidence in areas outside Public Sector Payroll that I do not handle in my day-to-day processes,” Ow said.
