Workday blog 3

Payroll’s job is more challenging than ever. No matter where we live, we are all experiencing extraordinary times as we respond to COVID-19 in both our personal and professional lives.

Whether  shifting to paying workers remotely, managing new sick pay policies, or creating employee emergency relief funds, payroll professionals are continuing to work hard to ensure they pay employees accurately and on time. And in today’s world of work, every paycheck is critical.

So, how does payroll adapt and still maintain payroll continuity in the face of change? Here are three key ways Workday and our customers have been able to drive payroll agility:

1. Flexibility to Make Changes in Real Time

With the Workday Payroll configurable business user interface, our customers have complete control over payroll and can make changes without any help from IT, making it easier and faster to resolve payroll issues and respond to change.

Whether it is setting up a costing allocation/salary split or changing a calculation code, customers can easily make these changes within Workday in real time.

One of our customers in the insurance industry supported its employees during these difficult times by quickly adding pay elements, additional time-off plans, and benefits.

2. Ability to Run Payroll From Anywhere, Anytime

Remote work has become the new normal for many around the world, including payroll professionals.. With Workday, our customers can process payroll and configure security settings to allow other business partners to provide input remotely.

As a result, our customers have successfully transitioned to running payroll remotely. For example, a manufacturing customer told us they found it easy to run payroll remotely, something they would not have been able to do in other payroll systems. Another customer in the professional services industry managed, in just two days, to set up its payroll team in their homes to run payroll.

3. Team of Experts Continuously Monitoring Compliance Updates

The new normal has also brought along changes in regulation around the world. It can be hard for payroll to keep up with all of these changes, which is why we have a dedicated team of Workday experts continuously and proactively monitoring regulatory updates to help our customers maintain compliance.

We are paying close attention to legislation in response to COVID-19, such as the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) and the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES), that may have an influence on payroll. Our customers also have access to a dedicated COVID-19 customer resource page on Workday Community where they can post questions and view contributed Workday solutions in response to COVID-19.

As we continue to respond to the changing world of work, we at Workday are committed to helping our customers with the resources and tools they need to run payroll, accurately and on time, under any circumstances.
