The final, top-secret mission for the agents of “The Spy Who Paid Me” is upon us. During the American Payroll Association’s (APA) 36th Annual Congress, each agent will complete one more task designed to test their confidentiality, knowledge, and creativity to determine who will be named “APA’s Top Secret Agent.”

Congress attendees will see the mission unfold live during Thursday’s General Session and Friday’s Awards Luncheon, and will also have the opportunity to text in their vote for their favorite agent during Friday’s Closing General Session.

Prior to casting your vote, it is prudent to revisit the challenges the agents have overcome while preparing for this final mission over the past few months:

  • First, the agents formally known as Deborah Laidler, CPP; Ronald Gilson, CPP; Ansleigh Smith, CPP; and Juanita Trotter, CPP, created alter-ego spy personas known as Agent Eye-9, Otto Pay, Miss Calculations, and J Money.

  • Then, the agents’ skills of resourcefulness and confidentiality were tested as they deciphered a secret message from headquarters debriefing them on the evil villain’s plot to disrupt the payroll industry.

  • Next, the agents created one-of-a-kind disguises to conceal their true identities from the villain. The greater payroll community decided which agent was the most unrecognizable.
  • Finally, each agent needed to prove that their disguise was successful by going undercover in four settings. The agents submitted photo evidence of how they used their disguise, and several anonymous judges selected their top picks.

The APA is calling upon the greater payroll community to help make this last major decision during the Closing General Session on May 18 at 4:15 p.m.
