Stephanie Salavejus, CPP, and David Wakeling, CPP, are the American Payroll Association’s (APA) 2017 Payroll Woman of the Year and Payroll Man of the Year.

Salavejus is Vice President and COO of PenSoft. She joined the APA in 2005 and has been a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) since 2000. She has extensive volunteer service, served on the President’s Board of Advisors, and is beginning a term as an APA Vice President. She received the APA’s Meritorious Service Award in 2013 and Special Recognition Award in 2016.

“I am truly humbled, and I am so pumped that my payroll ‘peeps’ help push boundaries beyond the comfort zone that elevated payroll to where it is today,” Salavejus said.

Wakeling is a Payroll/Tax Consultant at Wakeling and Associates after having a long career with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. He joined the APA in 1998 and has been a CPP since 1999. In recognition of his volunteer service, he received the APA’s Meritorious Service Award in 2014. He received the Payroll Man of the Year award on his birthday Tuesday.

“This is a total shock for me,” Wakeling said. “I am so grateful for the APA because I feel the APA is my mentor. I am what I am today because of the APA. I received the Payroll Man of the Year award on my birthday. How can you ever top that as a birthday gift?"
